Beerland Festival to the rescue of cyclone survivors
As numerous individuals and organisations continue to put their efforts together in response to the Tropical Cyclone Freddy devastation, entertainment platform Beerland Festival has joined the bandwagon.
The platform has mobilised resources to be donated to survivors of the cyclone in Zomba on Saturday morning before their festival scheduled for Domino Garden in the city.
The donation and festival will be preceded by another event in Mangochi this evening at Malombe Nest. The gig will be headlined by dancehall artist Malinga and Zeze Kingston.
According to Beerland Festival lead Kennedy Maluwa, the donation will be given to survivors at Sparkle Camp in Matawale and Gymkhana Club camp to offer them moral support in their time of need.
“The damage caused by this disaster has cross-cutting effects. It does not matter whether one has been affected directly or not. What we need as nation is to come together and stand up for each other. We sympathise with those who have lost property and their lives,” he said.
Maluwa, popularly known as DJ Kenny, said they have decided to proceed with their planned events since they will use the proceeds from the same to reach out to other affected people.
He said: “It will not be easy to get back our lives to normal. Therefore, it is our wish to sustain this drive so we can reach as many lives as possible. We will identify the next beneficiaries, depending on the data that will be made available to us by relevant stakeholders.”
The event on Saturday, dubbed Drinks and Food Carnival, has attracted names such as DJ West, Mighty Virus, DJ Hitman, DJ Vinneq and DJ Kenny himself. Two trending artists Temwah and Zeze Kingston will also perform at the event.
Temwah said: “Zomba should expect an explosive performance from me. I will perform some of the new songs from my new album. Zomba should be ready with their dancing shoes on.”
On his part, Zeze Kingstone said the evnts should allow people to move on from the catastrophic events that have happened in the past week while looking forward positively.
